Meet Jason Duval: The Army Vet Working the Keys in GTA 6

Jason Duval is one of the two playable leads in GTA 6, alongside Lucia Caminos. Rockstar Games introduced him properly with Trailer 2 in May 2025, and the launch trailer of October 2026 filled in more of his past. This guide covers who he is according to Rockstar, how he and Lucia fit together, where in Leonida he belongs, and what is still unknown before the game launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Who Jason is according to Rockstar

Rockstar's character page sums him up in one line: he wants an easy life, but things keep getting harder. He grew up around grifters and crooks. He joined the Army to get away from a troubled youth, and afterwards ended up in the Keys, working for local drug runners. The same page suggests it may be time for him to try something new.

The launch trailer, released on October 15, 2026, adds to that. In it, Jason says he did not leave the Army on good terms, and that people like him do not get loans. It is the clearest reason Rockstar has given for why he is still in crime: the honest routes are closed to him.

Jason and Lucia together

Lucia is the other lead. Rockstar says fighting for her family landed her in Leonida Penitentiary, and that luck got her out. Its page on Jason says meeting her could be the best or the worst thing that ever happens to him. Trailer 1, from December 2023, opened with Lucia in prison and ended with the two of them robbing a store together.

Rockstar's story summary starts with an easy score that goes wrong. It pulls both of them into a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida, and to get through it they have to rely on each other. The launch trailer shows the same thing on a small scale: Lucia calls Jason from prison, later asks him whether they are going to be okay, and he answers that they have stuck together through everything.

That makes GTA 6 different from GTA 5, which split its story over three men who mostly worked apart. Here there are two leads, and they are a couple.

Where Jason belongs in Leonida

Rockstar ties Jason to one place above all: the Keys. His boss is Brian Heder, who Rockstar describes as a drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys. Brian runs his business out of a boat yard with his third wife, Lori, and lets Jason live rent-free at one of his properties in return for work. Jason's friend Cal Hampton works for Brian too, and one of Rockstar's Trailer 2 screenshots shows Jason out fishing. Our guide to the Leonida Keys covers the islands, bridges and beaches around them.

The story does not stay there. Rockstar says the conspiracy stretches across the whole state, and Trailer 2 spends much of its time in Vice City, though Rockstar has not said how much of Jason's story takes place there. The launch trailer also shows him in tactical gear in a swamp with two other men. Rockstar has not said where or when that scene happens. The swamp region on the map is Grassrivers, but no official source places Jason there.

Leaks and community findings

What we do not know yet

Rockstar has not named the actor who plays Jason. It has not shown how switching between the two leads works, although GTA 5 let players swap between its three. It has not said how the story is split between Jason and Lucia, or how much his Army past matters once the plot gets going.

Rockstar has also not released an official map, so nobody outside the studio knows exactly where his home or Brian's boat yard sits. Our map uses the fan-made reconstruction by the GTA VI Community Mapping Project, and any location on it is the community's best reading, not a confirmed spot. This guide gets rewritten once the game is out on November 19, 2026.
